The great saints and spiritual luminaries are the ones who carry the mantle of spiritual leadership for the believers until the Day of Judgment. Even after their passing, their spiritual interventions continue to illuminate our lives, as affirmed by the Quran, Hadith, and history. These noble souls, who are the embodiments of Allah's truth and serve as a means for preserving His guidance, protect our ancient and universal faith traditions without any deviation until the end of time.
The saints of Allah, who are His chosen servants, are the ones who ensure the healthy and progressive growth of society, culture, and civilization, all while adhering to Islamic principles. The profound love and deep connection that Allah has for His saints are made clear in the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
قال الله : "لقد أعلنت الحرب عليه إذا أزعجني في أمر عظمتي.Allah said: "I have declared war on anyone who troubles My beloved servants."
And: "My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than what I have made obligatory upon him. And if he continues to draw near to Me with voluntary acts of worship, I will love him. And when I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks. If he asks Me, I will surely grant him, and if he seeks refuge in Me, I will surely protect him." (Sahih al-Bukhari)
In short, the saints of Allah fear nothing. Their thoughts and actions are solely dedicated to the path of Allah. The criticisms or objections of others do not cause any change in their moral lives or actions. Allah says:
يقول الله تعالى: "اعلموا أن أولياء الله لا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون".
"Behold! Verily, the friends of Allah have no fear, nor do they grieve." (Surah Yunus, 10:62)
The words and actions of the saints carry deep meanings and interpretations. Their way of life cannot be interpreted by ordinary people. At the same time, those who merely dress up as saints or act like saints through external displays do not fall into this category.
From an Islamic perspective, the words and practices of those confirmed as saints by Allah must be subjected to at least seventy interpretations, as Imam Nawawi clarified in his Sharh al-Muhadhab. The abundance of miracles (karamat) is seen more among later generations than among the Companions (Sahabah). Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Imam Shihabuddin Suhrawardi have spoken about this. The strong faith of the Companions, due to their direct spiritual connection with the Prophet (peace be upon him), did not require the reinforcement of miracles or the rectification of weak faith.
Although many miracles were witnessed among the Companions, the greater number of miracles seen among later saints were for the purpose of strengthening faith, guiding others to the path of Islam, and achieving other noble goals.
